Aluminium: only casting from externally sourced scrap is suspended

In short

What BOI Announcement ง.1/2569, dated 2026-03-30, withholds is narrower than its own title suggests: the grant of promotion to new projects that cast aluminium metal from aluminium scrap sourced from outside the project, under activity category 5.4.9 (rolling, drawing, casting or forging of non-ferrous metals). It is not a suspension of aluminium manufacturing as a whole.

01What it means for you

Remelting scrap generated by the project itself, and aluminium processing that does not involve scrap casting — extrusion or die casting from primary ingot, for example — sit outside this suspension. Whether promotion is actually available still depends on the conditions attached to category 5.4.9 itself, which this announcement does not address.

Projects already promoted for that same casting process may not amend production capacity arising from additional investment, but may still apply for benefits under the Smart and Sustainable Industry measure and the community and social development measure. The announcement states the suspension is temporary but sets no end date, and it applies to applications filed from the date of issue onward. Check the exact category you plan to file under before you fix a submission date.
